Tips for rational debate: 1. ALWAYS address the substance/content of an argument... NEVER focus on the style/appearance of an argument. 2. If your argument is rational, you should be able to make your point using REASON alone. Do not appeal to the AUTHORITY of news articles, science "proofs" or studies, statistics, or 'experts'. 3. NEVER address the person making the argument. Only address the argument itself. 4. Reference SPECIFIC points made in the argument you are addressing- do NOT make blanket general claims without specifying your disagreements (e.g. "Take a course in math!" or "You are uneducated!
